Isra’a Attiah Ghanem Abu Rijal
Isra’a Attiah Ghanem Abu Rijal is a photographer and teacher based in Jerash Refugee Camp in Jordan. Her work reflects on the diversity of life and the finer details that often go overlooked. “When you photograph something, you stop for a moment that will stay forever.” Isra’a believes that photography conveys feelings of joy, sadness, pain and suffering that cannot be conveyed through writing. As a lifelong resident of Jerash “Gaza” Camp, she sees the camp as the home of her memories. “It is a small homeland outside the borders of Palestine. It has all the belonging and loyalty. I feel it is not seen by the world, but it has a lot. It is a place that makes me feel that I have to do something that it deserves.”
Isra’a received her bachelors degree in teaching from Yarmouk University, and now works as a teacher of children with special learning needs at the Hopes-Sitti Women’s Centre in Jerash Camp.
